Simon McNamara and Laura Paine proved quickest at the Farnborough and Camberley CC’s 10-mile time trial on theH10/8 near Bentley in Hampshire on Saturday.
46-year-old McNamara, riding for HuntBikeWheels.com, clocked 20-24 to win by just one second from Richard Pywell (Team Bottrill), while his Bottrill team-mate Michael Nagi was third, another 14 seconds back.
Paine clocked 24-29 to ensure the 31-year-old Precision Race Team rider took the prize for fastest female, being 1-10 ahead of a3crg veteran Virginia McGee, while third quickest of the women was Ali Walters (VC Godalming and Haslemere) with 25-53.
The classic out and back course takes riders down the A31 round the Bentley bypass to Holybourne and back. McNamara was also the best veteran, while Harry Ives (trainSharp Development Team) clocked 20-51 to finish fourth overall and fastest Espoir.
Sotonia CC pairing Mary Corbett and Norman Harvey rode the quickest tandem, clocking 30-39.
McNamara’ win comes after he placed second in the Redhill CC sporting 18-mile event the previous weekend.
This was Laura Paine’s first open time trial of 2022, but she is hoping to get a ride in the Charlotteville CC 50 at the end of April. She will no doubt be hoping for another good 50-mile performance there, after placing third in the Welsh 50 Championships last season with a personal best 2-03-59.
