Alfie Salmon (Lee Valley Youth CC) took the top spot in the Lea Valley CC 30-mile time trial, while Janet Fairclough (Liverpool Phoenix CC) was the fastest in the women’s event near Ugley in Essex.
Salmon completed the course in 1:06:57, a time over a minute quicker than any other rider.
His nearest competition came from Andrew Turnock (Finsbury Park CC) who clocked a time of 1:08:29. Occupying the final podium spot was David Glossy of Bicester Millennium CC as his final time was 1:08:31.
Scratch-man Salmon had only previously competed in three open events this calendar year, having finished on the podium in two of those, though this was officially his first win of 2022.
In the women’s event it was Janet Fairclough that was victorious, she rode a 1:23:57 to win comfortably. Caroline Wyke (CC Sudbury) was the next best, completing the course in 1:44:11.
Of her last three competitive rides Fairclough has finished on the podium once, a third placed finish last month in the Springfield Financial RT 10-mile charity event. Coming towards the back end of the season, she picks up her first win of 2022.
There was also a tandem event ran on the day, the winners for that event were Team Vision’s John Izaat and Dean Lubin and their final time was 1:09:25.
