Celia Brown and Paul Turton were fastest female and male riders respectively as Colchester Rovers CC hosted a 50-mile time trial on a new course in Essex on Sunday morning.
Brown (Beacon Roads CC) clocked 2-07-56 for the new E7/50d near Tendring, giving her a comfortable victory by over 13 minutes from Hilary Briggs (Serpentine Running Club) with 2-21-29, while third quickest of the females was the promoting club’s own Elspeth Knott in 2-32-27.
Paul Turton (Team Vision Racing-Silverhook) clocked 1-55-31 to win the men’s prize by 1-25 from Lee Kennedy of the Army Cycling team, while Mark Arnold (VTTA East Anglia Group) was third fastest, another 47 seconds back.
Elspeth Knott won the prize for the fastest woman from Colchester Rovers CC, while quickest man from the club was Phil Jarvis in 2-24-17.
There was also an impressive ride from 84-year-old Colin White, who finished the distance in 3-54-15 despite very hot conditions.
The new course begins just north of Tendring and first heads down to Tendring and across to Landermere, up through Beaumont-cum-Moze, Great Oakley, Wix, over the A120 to Bradfield Heath and back down through Horsley Cross to Tendring. Riders complete three laps in total.
This was Turton’s third open time trial win of the season, having previously tasted victory in the Maldon and District CC hilly 21 in March as well as the Maldon & District CC 50 in June.
