Sean O’Sullivan and Claire Lee were fastest male and fastest female respectively at the Victoria CC 10.2-mile time trial in Saffron Walden on Saturday morning.
The event, featuring a 23-rider strong field, raised £172.60 for Haven House Children’s Hospice with all prize winners donating their winnings to the fund.
The event, run on the E1/10A course, started just north of the Fighting Cocks pub and then proceeded north through Littlebury and Great Chesterford, turning at the B1383 roundabout and retracing back along the B1383 through Great Chesterford and Littlebury to finish just south off the start line.
O’Sullivan, riding for Hart Performance Coaching, set a winning time of 21 minutes and 46 seconds to seal a narrow victory ahead of West Suffolk Wheelers’ Jordan Black who finished in 21-51, while Matthew Saunders (Team Vision Racing – Silverhook) completed the podium in 22-25.
In the women’s event, Glendene CC rider Lee was first in 27-46, with a time of 29-41 helping Joanna Butcher (CC Sudbury) to second and Sue Rogers of Crest CC third in 30-23.
The solo, course and event record of 19-47, set by former world hour record holder Alex Dowsett, then of Trek-Livestrong, remains intact.
In the 2-up event, James Conway and Adam Lowe, of the Metropolitan Police Cycling Club, took first prize in 24-40, while fastest team of three were John Steed, David Young and Jordan Black in 01-16-41.
