Scratch rider Simon Alexander (Richardsons-Trek RT) took victory in his first open time trial of the season at the Maldon & District CC 10, while Louise Robinson (Essex Roads CC) won the women’s event.
Alexander, aged 28, recorded a winning time of 21 minutes and 16 seconds on the sporting course.
The E21/10 sees riders start near Steeple on the Essex coast heading out on a tough unclassified road and then joining the B1021 over three miles to Bradwell-on-Sea and then riders completed a small loop before making the return journey heading past the start to the finish shortly before Steeple.
Conditions were nice and dry, but times were slowed by the wind.
Prior to the event Alexander had four second placed finishes to his name in open time trials in previous years but no open victory.
However, he corrected that record finishing 43 seconds ahead of his nearest rival which was Nick Knight (Hart Performance Coaching) in 21-59.
Completing the podium positions was Lee Kennedy (Army Cycling) who took the bronze medal in 22-16.
Spindata had predicted that Alexander would clock a time of 21-54 but in reality his time was 38 seconds faster.
In the women’s event veteran rider Robinson added another win to her collection recording a winning time of 24 minutes and 15 seconds.
Robinson was also victorious in last weekend’s Maldon & District sporting 50 and showed her form once again.
Spindata had predicted that Robison would finish in 23-43 but in the windy conditions and lumpy terrain her actual time was 32 seconds slower.
Fellow veteran Karen Aylen, of host club Maldon & District CC, provided tough competition for the win but had to settle for second in 24-40.
Meanwhile, Jan Harvey (Southend Wheelers) placed third woman completing the course in 25-56.
