Paul Turton and Louise Robinson were fastest male and fastest female respectively at the Maldon and District CC 50-mile time trial on Sunday morning.
Team Vision Racing – Silverhook rider Turton finished in 1-53-40 to beat Andrew Turnock (Finsbury Park CC) 1-56-59 and Rob Chaplin, of East London Velo, who completed the course in 1-59-26.
In the women’s event, a time of 2-04-52 helped Essex Road CC’s Robinson to victory with Jan Harvey of Southend Wheelers taking second place in 2-16-21 and the final podium place going to Sudbury CC rider Caroline Wyke in 3-03-44.
Just 16 riders reached the start line despite the forecast rain passing through overnight, with competitors enjoying a light breeze and dry conditions throughout the flat but twisty 50-mile course with standing water on the route proving to be no concern.
This event, run on the E21/50 course, starts near the Huntsman & Hounds pub on Green Lane, Althorne, and proceeds east to Asheldham, then bears left onto the B1021 to Tillingham and Bradwell.
From there they turn left to Steeple and the Latchingdon Church mini roundabout where there is a left turn onto the B1081 towards Althorne, where the route bears left into Green Lane to complete one circuit before repeating the circuit, then just east of Mayland.
