Matthew Smith (Drag2Zero) took the top spot in the Shaftesbury 25-mile time trial, while Jackie Field (CC Ashwell) was the quickest in the women’s event near Cambourne.
Smith went off as the scratch man and justified that position by finishing over a minute quicker than the next rider to finish. 48:39 was his finishing time.
Second spot went to Joris Witstok (Cambridge University CC) with 49-45, while Adam Fisher (Cambridge CC) claimed the final spot in the top three clocking in at 52-44.
In the women’s event it was Jackie Field who was fastest in 58:05, the only woman to complete the F2A/25 course in less than an hour.
The next fastest woman was Susan Triplow (CC Sudbury), she clocked in at 1:02:15, while in third was Virginia McGee (a3crg) who rode a time of 1:02:34.
Coming into 2022, this was the second open event that Field had participated in, the first being the Cambridge CC 15 last week where she just missed the podium, though that is in the distance now with a first placed finish here. Field is due to ride in the Eastern Counties CA Championships next month.
