Emily Knight and Sam Thienel emerged victorious from the Easterley Road Club 15-mile time trial on Sunday morning, with the event reduced from 25 miles due to traffic lights on the course.
Knight (from Bishop’s Stortford CC) set a time of 37-20 to take victory in the women’s event, with 13-year-old Stonham Barns Park-SYRT rider Abbey Thompson an impressive second place with 40-08, and Crest CC’s Sue Rogers third in 46-28.
In bright but chilly conditions, Thienel was fastest overall in 31-54, while a time of 32-36 helped Essex Roads CC rider Graeme Garner to second place and David Halliday, of Team Bottrill, clocked 32-52 for third.
The route, run on E1/25D course, had been reduced from 25 miles, but usually begins close to Belcham’s Lane then proceeds through Quendon, Newport, Littlebury, Gt. Chesterford then turning at Little Chesterford roundabout before retracing the course to Stump Cross roundabout and finishing just past Pennington Lane.
Having previously recorded a fifth in the Hart Performance Coaching Spring Classic 10-mile time trial on March 12 and ninth at the ECCA 10-mile time trial on March 19, Thienel will hope to take momentum from his first win of the season into his next event at the ECCA 25-mile time trial on April 15.
