Lynsey Astles (Congleton CC) and Jozsef Evans (Fibrax Wrexham RC) were fastest female and male riders respectively at the Frodsham Wheelers 10-mile time trial near Farndon in Cheshire on Saturday.
46-year-old Astles clocked 25-13 for the D10/25 course to win that category by almost three minutes from Fibrax Wrexham RC’s Tanya Samuels.
And of the men 27-year-old Evans’s time of 20-55 was good enough for victory by 1-08 from Macclesfield Wheelers’ Louis Thomas-Messenger, while third went to veteran Neil Buckley (Port Sunlight Wheelers) who was another 32 seconds back.
The event began east of Wrexham, on the A534 Barton Road, first heading west to the outskirts of Wrexham before turning down towards the Wrexham Industrial Estate and heading back and retracing to the finish.
This was the second open time trial win of the season for Evans. Who previously tasted victory in the Fibrax Wrexham RC 25 a couple of weeks earlier. Prior to that he had placed third in the Burton and District 25 in June and was fourth at the Congleton CC 50 in July.
Astles’ time was a season best for 2022 and comes after the Sandbach-based rider had placed third in the Warrington RC 50 in May and second in the Manchester Wheelers 10 back in April.
In other categories the best junior was Birkenhead North End CC rider Reuben Corlett in 22-56 for seventh overall, while in the two-up event victory went to Barry Murphy and Matthew Welsh (Graham Weigh Racing-Deeside Olympic) in 21-42, which was 28 seconds better than the Velo6 Racing pair of Steven Filder and John Proudlove.
