Deborah Moss and David Parkin sealed victory as fastest female and fastest male respectively at the Southport CC Open 10-mile time trial on Saturday evening.
Springfield Financial Racing Team’s Moss set a time of 23-21 to finish ahead of Michelle Fairclough (Salford Cycling Club) who managed 24-05 on the course, with third place claimed by Tri Preston rider Rachel Orton, 39 seconds back in 24-44.
In the men’s event, Parkin (Chorley Cycling Club) was the only entrant to go under 20-00, finishing in 19-59 with runner-up Patrick Casey, of Team Lifting Fear Products/Cycles In Motion, clocking 20-22 while Alexander Royle, representing Manchester Bicycle Club, was third in 20-28.
In finishing second, 16-year-old Casey also set a new junior course record with Brian Moore (Tricycle Association – North West Region) registering a new tricycle record of 32-48 on a course that saw the 67 starters face a stiff north west wind and made fast times challenging.
Elsewhere, the juvenile award was claimed by Davey Allanson of Bury Clarion in 25-49, with Reuben Corlett (Birkenhead North End CC) fastest junior in 22-17, while JRC Interflon rider Liam Davison set a time of 28-07 to be named quickest espoir.
The team award went to the Bury Clarion team of Kevin Blades, Joseph Cadwallader and James Duffy with an aggregate time of 1-06-36
In the over-70s category, Alex Munro, of the Scottish VTTA, beat his Vet’s Standard by 4-33 at the age of 89.
The route, on course D33/10, starts just south of Tarleton and heads west past Mere Brow before encircling a roundabout on the A565 and heading back to the finish.
