Kieran Morris and Emily Meakin were fastest male and female riders respectively at the Chester Road Club 15.2-mile time trial in Cheshire on Saturday afternoon.
A time of 31-34 helped 20-year-old Oswestry Paragon CC rider Morris to victory ahead of John Thelwell, from Tricentral UK, who clocked 32-08, while Matthew Wales (Fibrax Wrexham CC) was 27 seconds further back in third.
Fastest female was 33-year-old Meakin, with the AWOL O’Shea Worx rider recording a time of 34-32, while Chester Triathlon Club’s Leigh Jenkins came second in 42-16.
Tricentral UK were the highest-placed team thanks to Thelwell finishing second, Daniel Lanegan seventh and Dan Elliot ninth.
Mike Walker (Nantwich Cycling Group) was the fastest veteran on actual time with 36-37, while best veteran on standard was Nick Giles of Pocomotion Racing Club who covered the course in 37-31 to beat his age standard by 5-01.
A total of 63 riders braved the windy conditions to ride the first round of the West Cheshire TTCA Series. It used a new course which starts on the A534 before heading west and encircling Wrexham Industrial Estate before looping back up the A534 to the finish.
Tough conditions on the day led to some riders reporting they were spinning out a big gear at certain points on the course and then battling with the wind in others places, while many found the final drag up to the finish particularly challenging.
Morris will look to continue his encouraging start to the season at Frodsham Wheelers’ 22-mile time trial on March 19, where he is likely to face tough competition again from Wales.
The next round of the West Cheshire TTCA Series is scheduled for April 15 and will take place on a 22-mile course hosted by Birkenhead North End CC.
