Jack Levick (Rose RT) was the fastest overall in the Rossington Wheelers 9.5-mile time trial, while Cheryl Symons (Hull Thursday RC) took that title in the women’s event on Saturday.
Due to be a 10-mile distance, roadworks and three-way traffic lights meant a slightly shorter distance. With both the start and finish points being moved.
24-year-old Levick took the victory in convincing fashion completing the course in 18:52, a time over a minute quicker than the next fastest rider.
Nicholas Latimer (Team Lifting Gear Products) was second in 19:55, while scratch-man Neal Parkin (Team Bottrill) was seven seconds off the pace as he clocked in at 20:02.
Levick had competed in five open events prior to this one and had finished fastest in four of those, the odd one out being the Darlington CC 25, where he finished second back in March. He will next be in action in the Drighlington BC 25 next weekend.
In the women's event it was Symons that finished quickest, 26:44 it took her to complete the 9.5 mile ride.
Symons was the only female rider to compete, marking her first open event and win of the 2022 season.
The O10/1 out and back course is a direct straight line ride down and back up the A614, and riders were greeted by good conditions with only a light breeze and sunshine.
In other categories Team Bottrill took first and second in the team prize, with Lindsey Roads CC missing out on second by just one second.
And in the oer-80s category the victory went to a 92-year-old!
Belgian beer was on offer as well as cash prizes, and Team Bottrill were not short of liquid refreshment having taken two team prizes while Neil Parkin, Daniel Barnett and Julian Ramsbottom also won age category prizes too.
Thanks go to the Birdwell Wheelers, who supplied all officials at the start, finish, pusher-offer and clerk, which saved the event.
