The South Normanton CC trio were fastest at the Tuxford Clarion three-up 25-mile event in North Nottinghamshire on Sunday.
Daniel Ward, Lee Tunnicliffe and Dean Eason were the riders to take victory, their time of 54-43 being 24 seconds better than runners-up from Nottingham Clarion of Michael Cooke, Matthew Uttley and Gavin Jones.
The host club took the women’s team prize with two counters being Jayne Clarke and Rachel Tully who clocked 1-19-36.
The event is held primarily as the National Clarion Team Time Trial Championships, but also as an open event for any local teams. It was a very warm day, pushing 27 degs at times and with an 8mph south westerly wind.
This year’s event was held under the cloud of sad news that one of the Calder Clarion junior riders, Lewis Smith, passed away on the previous Thursday following an accident prior to Wakefield-based Calder Clarion’s evening time trial.
Lewis was an active Clarion Junior, getting many National Clarion awards and accolades over the years, and showed such a promising talent. A one minute silence was held prior to the prize presentation.
While South Normanton and Nottingham Clarion took the first two places, third went to Sleaford Wheelers with Jim Boyle, Shaun Balfe and Matt Silk with 57:25.
Calder Clarion fielded three teams, including fastest vets of Olroyd, Lawson and Farrow with 1:01:50, Calder’s youth team of James Cunningham, Euan Cook and Andrew Cunningham, scraped the right side of ‘evens’ with a highly impressive 1:14:33.
