Emily Martin claimed a dominant victory as fastest female at the Burton and District CA 25-mile time trial on the Derbyshire-Staffordshire border on Sunday morning, with Richard Bideau winning the men’s event.

There were challenging weather conditions on the course, with strong headwinds on the outward leg asking a lot of the 64 entered riders, but the competitors still posted fast times in both the men’s and women’s events.

Weaver Valley CC rider Martin clocked 55-44 on her way to success, 1-59 faster than second-placed Keri Parton of Team Boompods who finished in 57-43, while a time of 57-57 was enough for Lucy Rogers (Congleton CC) to take third place on the podium.

In the men’s event, Bideau (Pendle Forest CC) finished in 50-12, while Neal Parkin of Team Bottrill, in 50-52 narrowly saw off Fibrax Wrexham’s Jozsef Evans who registered 50-56 over the course.

This 25-mile event, run on the A25/11 course, sees riders begin north of Hilton and head west on the A50, turning just north west of Uttoxeter before retracing.

This was the latest of a string of events for prolific Bideau, who has tasted victory already in 2022 at the Lancashire Road Club 10 last month as well as the Rossendale RC hilly 50, the Border City Wheelers hilly 20.2, the Pendle Forest CC hilly 26.2, the West Pennine RC hilly 14.6 and the Rossendale RC hilly 10.3.

For Emily Martin this win comes after she was fastest female in the VTTA Manchester and North West 25 last weekend, while she was also quickest woman at the Drighlington BC 25 last month.
