Fay Barrington and Grant Bigham were fastest female and male competitors respectively at the VTTA East Midlands 25-mile time trial on Saturday afternoon.
Riding for Banbury Star CC, Barrington’s time of 1-03-03 helped her to victory over Team Jewson rider Diana Egerton-Warburton who set a time of 1-03-50, while Sarah Harrison (Sheffield Tri Club) completed the podium in 1-04-02.
In the men’s event Bigham (Watt Shop) achieved a dominant victory in 51-43, 1-15 ahead of closest rival Ian Guilor of Mapperley CC who finished in 53-18, while third place went to Team Bottrill’s Tim Hood in 54-10.
With an impressive +16-41, Hood was fastest on veterans’ standard time, ahead of Guilor in +15-34 and Legato RT’s Joseph Costello who recorded +14-56.
Team Bottrill’s successful day was completed by scooping both team prizes with Hood, Neal Parkin and Geoff Platts claiming the fastest team on actual time in 58-25, while Hood, Platts and Jennifer Clegg were awarded fastest team on standard time.
This event, run on the A25/34 course, starts on the southbound exit from East Stoke, proceeds south to pass over the A46 then onto the A46 southbound slip road and proceeding south to take the slip road from A46 to the traffic island at Stragglethorpe Junction, then the fourth exit to pass under the A46 to a second roundabout and onto A46 northbound towards Newark.
At the Farndon roundabout, riders take the first exit onto Fosse Road and finish at the gateway to the River Trent and just before Stoke Warren Farm.
