Tom Thornely (Buxton CC-Sett Valley Cycles) was the fastest rider in the Matlock CC 10-mile time trial, while Liz Batt of the same team was the fastest in the women’s event.
The event used the A10/16 out-and-back course and is ridden on the A6. Riders start near Darley Hillside and ride north through Tankersley and Rowsley, then follow River Wye until reaching Bakewell where they turn back for home.
Thornely went off as the favourite for the event and he lived up to expectations, clocking in at 21:33 which was just one second faster than his nearest rival.
Second place was Mat Ivings (Buxton CC) who completed the course in 21:34, while Matthew Bagshawe (South Normanton CC) took third, clocking a time of 21:50.
In the women’s event it was veteran rider Liz Batt that rode the fastest time, 25:41 being the winning time.
Second spot in the women’s event was ridden by 51-year-old Elaine Simpson (Sherwood CC) who clocked a time of 27:38, while third was Tracy Gregory also of Buxton CC who finished the 10-mile ride in 31:10.
Batt had participated in two open events before this third one today. In her first open event of the season she missed out on a podium spot but came back faster the next time out and rode a second placed finish, which she then again improved on today.
She is scheduled to ride the Dukinfield CC 50 next weekend.
