Oliver Peckover (Ribble Weldtite) was the fastest rider in the Velo Club Long Eaton 10-mile time trial, while Gillian Campbell (Born to Bike - Bridgtown Cycles) went quickest in the women’s event.
23-year-old Peckover clocked a time of 19:17 to take victory, nearly two minutes quicker than the next fastest rider.
Matthew Bagshawe (South Normanton CC) finished second, completing the course in 21:03 - a new personal best for him – while third was Joseph Costello (Walsall Roads CC) as he clocked a time of 21:25.
Peckover finished 2021 with an array of podium finishes, the same way in which he has started 2022. This being his third open event which marks his third podium finish, this being his first win of the year after starting with two third place finishes, both over 10 miles at Coalville Wheelers and Melton Olympic CC. As well as this he was coming off the back of a 100-mile plus ride yesterday, making the fastest time today ever so more impressive.
In the women’s event it was Gillian Campbell to complete the A10/19 course the quickest, she did so in 26:18.
Andrea Winkless (Coalville Whs) finished second quickest, clocking a time just over a minute behind - 27:32.
Campbell had narrowly missed out on podiums in her first two starts of the year, having finished fifth and fourth in her two open events prior to this one.
Times during this event may have been boosted by the favourable weather and lack of wind. The roads were very quiet and fast, creating a perfect morning for the riders.
