Jamie Witcher and Simone Mitchell took the honours as fastest male and female riders respectively at the Velo Club Venta 10-mile time trial on Sunday morning.
Bournemouth Cycleworks - Vitec Fire - Ford Civil – Trek rider Witcher set a time of 21-06 to just edge out Grinta Coaching’s Tristan Galloway by three seconds, with Matthew Gilmour, from the host club, finishing in 21-30 for third place.
A time of 25-04 saw Mitchell, riding for ...a3crg, lead the field in the women’s event, while Grace Terry of Oakley Pedalers was second in 27-51.
A bumper field of 29 riders entered the road bike event on the same course, with James Plumb and Emma Toole the fastest man and fastest woman in that category.
Plumb, representing the host club, recorded 23-09 and North Hampshire RC’s Luke Walton second in 23-28 to finish ahead of Malcolm Cox (Velo Club Raphael) who completed the course in 24-47.
District of Hamwic Cyclesport (DHC) rider O’Toole was home in 25-51 and Harriet Heernando (Maidenhead & District CC) claimed second place in 29-39 with a time of 33-52 enough for Velo Club Venta’s Isla Hoult to take third.
The 10-mile route, on course HCC283, begins in Lower Abbotstone Wood before heading north on Bugmore Lane, then turning back south just before Preston Candover on the B3046, heading through Brown Candover and Northington and following Basingstoke Road down to the finish.
