Kate Allan

Kate Allan (Team Bottrill) smashed the women’s course record at the Maidenhead & District CC 29.5, while Pat Wright (Paceline RT) showed his form going into the new season winning the men’s event by three minutes.

Allan, aged 37 and from Maidenhead, clocked a winning time of one hour, 12 minutes and 46 seconds which was six minutes faster than the previous course record (1-18-55).

The Team Bottrill rider finished ninth in the National Closed Circuit Championships last season and showed her winter training to clock a time which was also the second fastest men’s time, she was the only woman finisher.

The H29/18 saw riders complete a large loop starting near Lane End before heading north on the B482 to Stokenchurch and briefly joining the A40 to the Oxfordshire border.

Riders then turned onto Christmas Common Road heading south and then joining the B481 over to Cookley Green and Nettlebed.

Pat Wright

Joining the A4130 riders passed through Nettlebed Woods into Henley-on-Thames before heading onto the final tough test of the A4155 into Marlow and then final climb up to the finish.

The weather was cold with an air temp around five degrees Celsius but a 10 to 15 miles per hour wind making it feel much colder and hard work on the more open stretch between Henley and Marlow.

In the men’s event 37-year-old Wright from near Effingham marked his first open outing of 2022 with the victory he desired but was denied last year.

Last season Wright was runner-up on five occasions, but he went one better on his first attempt this year with a winning time of 1-10-04.

Ollie Hucks (Saint Piran) won six open time trial last season but had to settle for second this time out over three minutes behind in 1-13-15 while Michael Parker (TMG Horizon CT) was third in 1-18-16.

The fastest and only juvenile rider was Pascal Giret (Maidenhead & District CC) who despite having crank related issues he completed the course in 1-34-08.

Para cyclist Ben Payne ((Maidenhead & District CC) was taking part in his first open time trial event and recorded a time of 1-28-15.

The two-up event was won by the AS Test Team pair of Chris Bartley and Dave Currie who were emphatic winners in 1-10-33.

The pair of Ben Richardson (Team Milton Keynes) and Garfield Hall (Woolwich CC) finished second in 1-22-40 ahead of the Podium Addict duo of Barry Keane and James Watts in 1-24-55.
