David Mead was fastest male while Sally Maitland claimed fastest female at Kettering CC’s 10-mile time trial in Northamptonshire on Saturday afternoon.

Hinckley Cycle Racing Club’s Mead took an impressive victory in 20-38 over the course, beating George Fox (George Fox Cycling Solutions) by 31 seconds in 21-09 with Race Rapid rider Robert Gibbons taking third spot in 21-37.

This victory continues Mead’s fine form so far this season, having registered a third place in his first race of the season at Worcester St Johns CC 15-mile time trial on July 23 as well as four runners-up finishes, and victory at Coalville Wheelers’ 19.8-mile om August 28.

In the women’s event, Maitland was home fastest in 27-19 to earn top spot ahead of fastest Espoir Bethany Spencer (Kettering CC) and third-placed Sarah Soden, with the Leicester Forest CC rider finishing in 29-13.

In the road bike category Welland Valley CC’s Carl Dyson took first place in 23-31 while Richard Smith (Stoney Stanton Velo Club) was second in 24-36 and VeloElite RC rider Alex Garner claimed the final podium spot in 24-36.

Linda Thomas was the fastest female in the road bike category, the enduro team member clocking 30-11 across the course.

Melton Olympic CC pair Martin Fisher and Mick Stevens were the winners of the two-up event in 23-09, beating Andy Newham and David Mason by 12 seconds with the Lincoln Wheelers CC team finishing in 23-22 and Ann Shuttleworth (Cambridge CC) and Ian Short (Team Salesengine.co.uk) teaming up for third spot in 25-06.

This event, run on the N3/10 course, starts the junction with Draughton Lane and Lamport then proceeds northeast and bears right towards Rothwell before continuing to the roundabout on the south side of the bridge over the A14 and encircling the roundabout to follow route back to Lamport and heading left towards Old to finish opposite Porters Lodge at Lamport Hall.
