Sam McDonald (St. Neots CC) went fastest in the Northampton & District CA 15-mile time trial near Peterborough, while Sue Rogers (Crest CC) took the woman’s event top prize.
32-year-old McDonald won the men’s event comfortably, his time was 32:53, a time over two minutes quicker than his nearest rival.
Clinching second spot and denying a St. Neots CC one-two was Andy Sharman of Team Bottrill, he clocked 34:54, while taking the final podium position was Simon Murphy with a time of 34:55.
McDonald started 2022 off brightly finishing on the podium in each of his first two open events, though missing out twice since then he has still been thereabouts with both of these finishes coming in fourth. This event marked his return to the podium in style.
He has the opportunity to build on this next week as he is scheduled to compete in the Northampton & District 20.8 next weekend.
Sue Rogers was the winner in the women’s event, posting a time of 43:33. She was the only female participant, though she almost matched her spindata predicted time which shows that she was on pace and justified a victorious ride.
Her last podium finish came a couple months back in the Easterley RC 15 but hopefully her next can be next weekend, where she is scheduled to ride in the Victoria CC 10.2.
The N1/15 course is an out and back course along the A1. It begins just east of Upton and travels north past Sawtry and Stilton before turning at the B1043 roundabout and heading back for finish.
The fastest team on the day was St. Neots CC, led by winner McDonald but also containing Simon Murphy and Mark Greenhow.
