John Archibald and Joanna Patterson were fastest at the Georgetown Cup 7.5-mile time trial staged by Velopreda in East Renfrewshire on Saturday morning.

Archibald (WattShop) clocked 12-48 to break the course record, while Patterson’s time of 15-22 was enough to make her the equal fifth fastest rider overall.

The winners of the inaugural Georgetown Cup back in 2011, Johnstone Wheelers returned to the top step of the podium this year with a time of 2:07:53 from their eight fastest riders. Last year's winners VC Glasgow South took silver while bronze went to Nightingale CC.

In the female event Ayr Roads defended their title with a stiff challenge from Lanark Race Team in second place. St Christopher's CC also successfully held on to the Georgetown Pie award.

Archibald’s time of 12-48 was enough to give him solo victory by an impressive 2-14 from Rob Graham (GTR Return to Life), while third was Jesse Dawson (Vanelli-Project GO) with 15-14.

The Johnstone Wheelers riders who were part of their winning eight-rider team were Matt Howitt in fourth, Sam Edgar in joint fifth, Iain McTavish, Gregg O’Malley, Robert Gunson, Ian Archibald, Gerard Deeley and Richard Provan.

The event begins near the Inchinnan Industrial Estate and heads out under the M8 motorway and on to Houston roundabout near Crosslee, before turning back for home and finishing at Georgetown Road.
