Ashley Cox (Team Bottrill) and Emily Meakin (AWOL O’Shea Worx) stormed to victory in the men’s and women’s events respectively in the Stafford RC 10 and both broke the open course records in the process.
Cox, aged 39, was competing in his first open time trial event of the season and showed his early form taking victory in an open course record time of 19 minutes and 13 seconds.
Meanwhile Meakin, aged 33, from nearby Little Haywood, set a new women’s course record time of 21 minutes and 13 seconds.
The K48/10 is a challenging 10-mile out and back course between Weston and Stone on the A51 with a couple of punishing ascents and a grippy first and last two miles.
Conditions on the day were good but not perfect with a mild temperate and dry road but with a light south-westerly wind.
Despite the rolling nature of the course Cox recorded an average speed of over 31.2 miles per hour to take victory.
Grant Bigham (WattShop) won the WCTTA & SCCA 30 earlier this month but had to settle for second on this occasion in 20-07.
Quickest veteran Tim Hood (Team Bottrill) won a tight battle for third clocking 21-04 which was five seconds quicker than fellow veteran Ian Guilor (Mapperley CC).
Hood was also the best veteran on standard in +6.54 ahead of Guilor.
A long journey for Thomas Mason (Brixton Cycles Club) was worthwhile winning the road bike category in 22-06.
Veteran Steve Biddulph (Born to Bike - Bridgtown Cycles) finished second road bike in 22-28 ahead of Mark Wise (Team Jewson - MI Racing ~Poly Pipe~McCann) in 23-53.
A separate event was held for women and junior riders with Callum Twelves (Team Ohten Aveas) the quickest in a time of 20-50 which would have placed him third amongst the men.
The previous week Twelves recorded a personal best of 20-08 to win the Coventry CC 10.
Meakin only rode one open time trial event last season but showed her form this season with a third win from as many events in the women’s category recording an average speed of over 28.2 miles per hour.
A tough battle for second saw Frances Owen (Fibrax Wrexham RC) clock 23-05 which was just four seconds quicker than Lauren Creamer (Velo Fixers) in 23-09.
Taking part in her first ever open time trial Kate Pilling (Ful-on Tri) was the quickest woman in the road bike category beating Sarah Brookes (Stafford RC) into second (31-32) while fellow host club rider Paula Blackburn was third (32-53).
