Chris Smart (GTR - Return to Life) was the winner of the Emergency Services Championship 12-mile time trial, while Fiona Prew (Stone Wheelers CC) broke the female course record on her way to victory in the women’s event.

Smart was the winner of the event having ridden a 25:17 which was over a minute faster than the nearest competitor Terry Wilkinson (Barnesbury CC) in 26:24, and filling the final podium spot was Richard Butler (Giant-Kendal RT) who finished just a second slower to take third.

Smart came into this event having two podium finishes in as many events, one of those being a 2-up but the other being the Bute Wheelers 10 where he was runner up last time out, he was able to one up that this time out.

After the event he said: “I managed to get clipped in straight away which is always a bonus. I really love this course as it has a bit of everything – twisty corners, descents and climbs. I like courses where you have to have your wits about you and where you have to spike the power as opposed to remaining aero the whole time.”

In the women’s event it was Fiona Prew who got the win as she took four seconds off the previous course record. The new women’s course record set by Prew now stands at 30:50.

Taking second spot was Natalie Batey (Tyne & Wear Fire & Rescue service CC) who clocked in at 32:24 and in third spot was Natalie Mortimer of the same club, she completed the course in 34:36 to complete the podium.

Prew will also be taking part in the 25-mile event a day later where she will be looking to emulate her ride here and carry this form into the next event to make it a weekend of wins.
