Kevin Chant (Wightlink Wight Mountain Race Team) marked his return to open time trials by sharing victory with scratch rider Samuel Wadsley (Primera-Teamjobs) in the …a3crg 10, while Claire Emons (Newbury RC) won the women’s event.

Chant’s last open outing was on the P881/10 almost a year ago winning the Utag RT 10 on a road bike in 19-35, and he went 47 seconds faster on this occasion to match Wadsley’s winning time of 18-48.

The P881/10 is thought to be one of the fastest 10-mile courses in the country starting outside Liss in Hampshire with riders competing on the A3 through the Longmoor Ranges before turning for home at Liphook.

Still conditions led to a host of fast times with only a light drizzle in the last 30 minutes of the events for riders to withstand.

Road racing rider Chant was making his first open time trial appearance of the season and set the benchmark time of 18-48.

Scratch rider Wadsley has won four events this season and won the …a3crg Ten on the P881/10 last month in 19-11.

It took a season-best time by Wadsley to match Chant’s earlier time for them to share honours.

The battle for third was also a close one with Ant Gritton (Sotonia CC) finishing 10 seconds back in 18-58 which was a single second faster than Joshua Clarke (Royal Navy & Royal Marines CA).

Sarah Matthews (a3crg) was the fastest veteran on standard with an impressive +8.20, 37 seconds better than Nick Dwyer (Lewes Wanderers CC) in second, while Matt Hill (VC Godalming & Haslemere) was third, just two seconds off Dwyer.

The quickest veteran rider on actual time was Andy Langdown (Atlas Clever Racing Team) who clocked 19-25 which was three seconds quicker than Brendan Reese (Army Cycling) while Alan Murchinson (Drag2zero) was third veteran in 19-31.

In the women’s event Claire Emons (Newbury RC) took the win she desired in a time of 22 minutes and one second.

Emons, aged 52, has taken a host of podium positions in recent weeks including a second-place finish in the …a3crg 10 in June clocking 21-51.

Despite her winning time being slightly slower on this occasion Emons had enough for victory by 18 seconds.

Sarah Matthews (…a3crg) placed second in 22-19 beating her team-mate Kirsty McSeveney into third (22-41).
