Marcel Schubert (Darlington CC) took victory in the Darlington CC 10-mile time trial, while Louise Scupham (Liv AWOL) was crowned winner of the women’s event near North Cowton in North Yorkshire.
Veteran Schubert continued his run of good form this season as he cycled the course in 20:29 to secure top spot in the event he was also the organizer for.
Behind him, Matthew Cole (Team Bottrill) was second and Ross Walton (GS Metro) third, clocking in at 20:32 and 21:05 respectively.
In the women’s event it was Louise Scupham that led the way, clocking in at 23:39 to claim the win.
Sarah Foulds (Velo Culture) was second with a time of 26:50, while Helen Quartermaine (Sowerby Sunday Club) completed the podium, clocking in at 29:41.
Schubert had participated in three events prior to the Darlington CC 10 throughout the month of July, winning all three of them, two over 25 miles and the most recent being over 50 miles, dropping down to 10 miles for this one and showing his class over a shorter distance.
Second-placed Cole is just 16 years old. He most recently won the National Youth Championship 10-mile event promoted by the Stockton Wheelers. He went 21:03 in that, but the 20:32 he rode in this event was his quickest time ever recorded in an open event and a new personal best.
Scupham’s victory comes after she was also victorious this season in the Vive le Velo 10 on June 13, as well as the same club’s 25-mile event back in April. She was third in the final round of the Merlin Cycles Classic Series in June, as well as second in the VTTA Yorkswhire 25 in April.
Foulds made it three podiums in her last four events, coming third in the most recent of those which was a 50-mile event near Northallerton. For third-placed Quartermaine, this was her first ride of the season, having been out of action since September 2020.
The fastest road bike time went to Brian Ward (Protech Velo) who finished 8th fastest overall with a time of 23:22.
