Simon Wilson (Ribble Weldtite Pro Cycling) continued his dominant start to the season by winning the Stockton Wheelers 23-mile time trial by over four minutes, while Louise Hamilton (The Bike Rack CC) took victory in the women’s event.
On a good day for Ribble Weldtite Pro Cycling under-23 rider Joe Wilson won the road bike event while Lauren Watson (Team Boompods) took the women’s win.
Wilson, aged 41 and from Padiham in Lancashire, made the trip to the North East worthwhile clocking a winning time of 46 minutes and 59 along the undulating and technical course in the time trial event.
A week earlier veteran Wilson won the Manchester Bicycle Club 10 by just 18 seconds but saw his winning advantage grow in County Durham.
The T235 saw riders complete two laps of a square-shaped course between Stockton-on-Tees and Darlington passing through several villages and taking in tight turns.
The weather warmed up throughout the morning and with a light breeze last rider away Wilson enjoyed the best conditions of the day.
Jack Reese (Ribble Weldtite Pro Cycling) led the charge behind his team-mate taking second in 51-12.
During the last running of the event in 2019, Keith Murray (Drag2Zero) won the event in 52-34 and despite going exactly one minute faster on this occasion he had to settle for third overall in 51-34.
Juvenile Joe Dixon (Velo Culture) continued his impressive start to the season winning his category and taking eighth overall in 54-02.
Joseph Turnbull (MTS Cycle Sport) also put in an impressive ride to finish second juvenile in 57-26 while Thomas Heighton (Ferryhill Wheelers) was quickest junior in 1-03-36.
In the women’s event Hamilton, who finished 15th in the National 50 Mile Championships last season, took her opening win of the season covering the course in a time of 1-07-57.
Fellow veteran Angela Ackerley (Cleveland Wheelers CC) took second in 1-09-09 while quickest juvenile Sophie Heighton (Ferryhill Wheelers) was third overall (1-09-33).
The road bike event included the Teesside District Road Bike Championships and saw Joe Wilson power to victory by 56 seconds.
Veteran Rob Carter (Cleveland Wheelers CC) won an intriguing battle for second finishing in 53-00 which was just a single second ahead of Marcel Schubert (Darlington Cycling Club) who rounded off the podium positions (53-01).
Veteran Robert Noble (Cycleways) was second in the category on scratch finishing fourth overall in 54-29 which was nine seconds fastest than third veteran Shaun Tyson (Protech Velo) in 54-38.
The quickest junior was Malachy Wicks (Stockton Wheelers CC) in 58-54 with his team-mate Owen Massey fastest juvenile.
In the women’s road bike event Watson led a one-two-three for Team Boompods with all three riders separated by just over a minute.
Watson was taking part in her first open time trial and took a clear victory in a time of 1-00-35, clocking an average speed of 22.77 miles per hour.
In a close battle for second Team Boompods team-mates with just nine seconds separating Ellen McDermott (1-01-29) and Hannah Farran (1-01-38).
Daisy Freer (Stockton Wheelers CC) was fastest juvenile girl in 1-05-28.
