Southampton University RCC rider Gabe Dellar and Reading CC’s Christina Gustafson were quickest male and female riders respectively at the Farnham Road Club climb of Brockham Hill Lane in Holybourne on Sunday.
20-year-old Dellar clocked 3-39.18 to take the win by around eight seconds from North Hampshire Road Club’s Luke Walton, while another second off the pace was Sam Clark (TBW23-Stuart Hall Cycling) in third spot.
The only woman to ride, Christina Gustafson (Reading CC) clocked 6-22.77.
While Dellar was the fastest espoir as well as overall winner, top junior was fourth-placed Felix Tuck (VC Meudon) with 3-54.46. And best veteran was a3crgh rider Andrew Thomas with 4-28.13.
This was Dellar’s second open victory of the season so far, coming after he won the Sussex CA event on Bostal Road, Steyning, on October 2. But since then he also placed third in the Blazing Saddles climb a fortnight ago.
His only other CTT performance on 2020 was in the Farnham Road Club climb almost 12 months ago, where he was 33 seconds slower on the same course and placed 22nd. Good improvement Gabe!
He doesn’t have a CTT event on his calendar next weekend – perhaps giving himself a break ahead of the National Championships in two weeks.
