Chris McNamara secured the first win of a weekend double, while veteran Danuta Tinn was fastest female at the Epsom CC 10-mile time trial in Hampshire on Saturday.

McNamara (Nuun-Sigma Sport-London RT) went on to win Sunday’s Wally Gimber Trophy road race in Kent, but started his weekend off in style with victory in this event near Bentley, clocking 19-14 to beat brother Simon McNamara (HuntBikeWheels) into second spot by eight seconds.

Meanwhile, Danuta Tinn (Maidenhead & Dist CC) clocked 22-50 to finish as fastest female by over a minute and a half from Delyth Williams (Dulwich Paragon CC). Third fastest female was Cheltenham & County CC’s Rachel Green, while the third fastest man was Lewis Tompsett (Thanet RC).

The prize for the first 30-39-year-old went to Tompsett, while top 50-59 was the promoting club’s own Paul Deen (Epsom CC), the 50-year-old clocking 20-13.

The prize for under-30s went to Edmond Long (London Dynamo), with Brighton Excelsior CC’s 68-year-old Chris Lord winning the over-60s prize with 22-21.

And in the road bikes category it was Paceline RT’s Adam Page who took the win in 21-50, while quickest female was Catherine Ridgway (BellaVelo CC) in 25-46.

A great performer in both time trials and road racing, Chris McNamara has secured TT victories already this season, and enjoyed a run of eight victories in a row earlier in the season.

He placed 14th in the National 25-mile Championship last weekend before winning the Epsom CC 10 and Wally Gimber Trophy, and has entered the National 10-Mile Championship next month too.

Tinn’s victory was her first in open time trialling this season, but she has several second place finishes to her name. She was second in the Westerley CC 10-mile event in May, as well as the High Wycombe CC 10 and North Hampshire Road Club 10 last month, where she was four seconds quicker on the same course as this Epsom CC event.

Her next event looks likely to be the Icknield Road Club 10 on September 4.
