Under-23 rider Thomas Day (SEG Racing Academy) recorded a new course record in the Newbury Velo 15, while Danielle Shrosbree (Team LDN) won the women’s event.
Day, aged 18, won the Junior National 25 Mile Championships last season and showed his form over the shorter distance setting a new course benchmark of 29 minutes and 12 seconds.
The tandem course record also fell with home club riders Ian Greenstreet and Rachael Elliott setting a new benchmark of 29-26, the second fastest time of the day.
The H15/3 course saw riders start on the B4000 before joining the A4 at the Bath Road Junction before turning at Hungerford and finishing on the A4 after a much shorter return leg.
Conditions were not the fastest with unfavourable wind conditions but the men’s and tandem course records still fell.
The last time Day graced the Newbury roads was at the 2019 Junior National 10 Mile Championship in 2019 on the H10/3R course which incorporated a similar course.
On that occasion Day posted an incredible 18-46 to win the event.
Once again Day was a clear victory finishing a minute and 25 seconds faster than his rivals.
Robert West (Aerocoach) who was riding his first flat time trial of the year finished in a joint second place with veteran James Fawcett (...a3crg) with both riders clocking 30-37.
Meanwhile, quickest junior rider was Joseph Martindale (Chippenham & District Wheelers) who covered the course in 39-34.
Shrosbree is no stranger to the Berkshire roads having won the Newbury 10 earlier this season in 22-55.
She added the Newbury Velo 15 to her collection with her time of 33-47 almost a minute quicker than her nearest rival.
Behind a close battle was fought out for the remaining podium position with Marianne Holt (Fareham Wheelers CC) taking second in 34-41.
The battle for third could not have been closer with Amy Marks (Team LDN) and Sarah Matthews (...a3crg) both clocking 34-54 to share third place.
Matthews’ time was also a new national age record for a 61-year-old woman.
Meanwhile, Sophie Quay-Clark (Palmer Park Velo) was quickest juvenile girl completing the course in a time of 39-13.
