Richard Pywell (Team Bottrill) set a benchmark by storming to victory in his first ever open time trial in the Newbury RC 25, while Lizi Duncombe (Socks4Watts RT) took another win in the women’s event.

On the first time the H25/1A course has been used in an open event Pywell took three minutes off the previous course record clocking 50 minutes and six seconds.

It was the 33-year-olds first open event and he will be hoping to continue the winning run in next week’s Reading CC 50.

Warmer weather met riders for the two-lap out and back course between Thatcham and Theale with few roundabouts and less climbing than the previously used course to suit riders but they still had to battle a challenging breeze.

Jacob Storey (Partenza-Nude Espresso RT) finished sixth in the Finsbury Park 25 on his first outing of the season and went better on this occasion taking second in 51-14 just 10 seconds faster than third placed Stefan Gloyn (Army Cycling).

Fastest veteran on scratch and standard James Fawcett (a3crg) finished fourth in 52-27 just 13 seconds faster than fellow veteran category rider Simon Bowler (AS Test Team).

Army Cycling won the team prize with Stefan Gloyn, Jonathan Hitch and Jeremy Redford making a combined time of 2-40-30.

Duncombe, aged 31, from London, also won the Shaftesbury CC 25 and was once again in top form taking victory and a new course record of 57-30.

Second placed Claire Emons (Newbury RC) finished in 58-51 which was also good enough for third veteran on standard with a +16.02 while Kerry Hickson (Newbury Velo) was third woman in 59-16.

First junior girl was Bethany Spencer (Kettering CC) who completed the course in a time of 1-04-10.
