Robert Shaw (Plymouth Corinthian CC) came out on top in the North Devon Wheelers 22-mile sporting time trial, while the fastest of the females was Natalia Grinczer (CMAS Racing).
Shaw, 32, clocked 49-50 to win the event by 27 seconds from Dean Robson (Velo Sport Jersey), with Josh Coyne (BPM Coaching) more than three minutes further off the pace in third with 53-35.
29-year-old Grinczer covered the S12/22s course near Bishop’s Tawton in 57-29 to place tenth overall and finish as fastest female by 1-10 from runner-up Erica Booth (Lancashire RC), with Taw Velo’s Rebecca Cornwell third, around five minutes further off the pace.
The challenging course takes rides from a start south of Bishop’s Tawton and down to Umberleigh before heading over to South Molton.
From there they head back up through Filleigh and Swimbridge, on to Landkey before finishing just before Rumsam.
This was Shaw’s second win of the season so far in open time trials, but it surely won’t be the last.
Having also won the Cycle Sport South Hams 10-mile event in early May, he was second in the City Cycle Couriers 10 and the Plymouth Corinthian Sporting 16 in April, while more recently he placed fourth twice, in the Tri-login 10 and Mid-Devon CC 10 this month.
This was Grinczer’s third victory in three open time trials so far in 2021, having also won the Plymouth Corinthian CC 16 and the Northover VT 10 in April.
Elsewhere in the event, fourth spot and fastest junior was the impressive Harry Jukes (Mid-Devon CC) in 53-50, 41 seconds ahead of second junior James Pearcy (Mid-Devon CC) in sixth overall.
Best of the veterans and fifth overall was Peter Norris (Cycle Sport South Hams, while Craig Harper (Wadebridge Coasters CC) was second vet and seventh overall with 55-35, just over a minute slower than Norris.
