Justin Webb

Justin Webb (a3crg) took his first open time trial win of the season at the Wessex Road Club 50-mile event in Dorset, while Louisa Cooper (Bournemouth Jubilee Wheelers) was fastest female.

Webb, the 42-year-old from Surrey, clocked 1-48-50 for the P417 course near Lytchett Minster, giving him the win by just over a minute from VC St Raphael rival and fellow veteran Andrew Rivett, while Andy Sloan (CC Weymouth) clinched third spot as he was just over four minutes off the pace set by Webb.

And in the women’s event Cooper took top honours, the 38-year-old from Wimborne clocking 2-12-01 and being the only female to finish the testing event.

The course takes riders from the start to the west of Lytchett Minster and mainly along the A35 between Canforth Heath and Puddletown.

It was a perfect calm, warm morning and many riders were pleased with pacy performances.

VC St Raphael were team winners with Rivett being joined in the winning trio by Kevin Baker and Nigel Pratt who were fifth and sixth.

Just outside of the podium places was Tim Flynn (Pool Wheelers) who was 39 seconds behind Sloan in third, while Kevin Baker and Nigel Pratt were behind in fourth and fifth and also team winners.

Webb’s form has been improving as the season progresses. Last month he was fourth in both the New Forest CC 33 and the a3crg 15-kilometre, and then on June 6 he placed third in the Portsmouth North End sporting 25. Finally, he tasted victory in this Wessex Road Club promotion.

He is next expected to be in action in the Poole Wheelers 25 on July 4, as well as the Sotonia CC 10 on July 10.

Cooper made it two wins in a row with her victory, having taken victory in the Bournemouth Jubilee Wheelers 42-kilometres event for road bikes on May 23. She also placed second in the CC Weymouth CC 10 back in April.
