Chris Fennell (The Independent Pedaler – Nopinz) and Alice Lethbridge (Drag2Zero) charged to clear victories in the men’s and women’s events at the Redmon CC 10.
The road bike category was also hard fought with David Hewett (Nuun-Sigma Sport-London RT) and Jennifer Buckley (BellaVelo cc) taking victories.
Fennell who started his season winning the Kent CA 10 last month was the only rider to break the 20-minute mark in difficult conditions winning in 19 minutes and 29 seconds in the time trial event.
The 25-year-old finish second in the National Circuit Championships and is preparing for another bid at the title on June 6.
The wind blew the rain away by 2pm for the start of Saturday afternoon’s Redmond 10 but left a strong south westerly wind.
That meant riders were blown out along the A24 south of Dorking before turning at Clark’s Green and battling against the elements on the return journey.
Despite the conditions Fennell’s time of 19-29 was six seconds faster than he recorded in the Kent CA 10 on his last outing.
A close battle for second saw Stuart Bettis (HuntBikeWheels) finish in 20-20 which was 11 seconds quicker than Ole Henrik Bang-Andreasen (Onyx RT).
Nik Allen (Team TMC/Strada) was fastest veteran on standard with his 22-01 equating to + 4:45, ahead of Paul Smith (VeloRefined Rule 5) in second (+3:19) and Mark Baker (Abellio - SFA Racing Team) third (+3:12).
On her first outing of the season Lethbridge was in fine form taking her first win in a time of 22-51.
Lethbridge finished 12th in the National Hill Climb Championships last season along with clocking a 21-32 for a 10-mile event.
The windy conditions hampered Lethbridge this time out but she was still a clear victor ahead of Yasmeen Mahmoud (Viceroys Triathlon Club) in second (27.14) and Debbie Percival (Kent Velo Girls/Boys) in third (29.17).
After missing last season’s events Hewett, who placed 9th in the National 10 Mile Championships in 2019, returned to action with a victory.
However, he was pushed all the way with his winning time of 22-11 just 23 seconds faster than Gareth Thomas (Paceline RT) in 22.34 while Pat Wright (Paceline RT) finished third (23.19).
The women’s road bike event was the closest category of the day with the top three riders separated by just 19 seconds.
Taking part in her first open event veteran Buckley took the honours ahead of team-mate Vikki Filsell (28-23) while Wendy Mathie (Penge Cycle Club) was a further eight seconds back.
Les Liddiard (GS Vecchi) was quickest veteran on standard with his time of 24-33 equating to +3:49.
Rupert Robinson (Crawley Wheelers) was second with a standard of +2:41 while Philip Hersey (Eagle Road Club) finished third (+1:55).
The hub geared bike event saw David French (Weybridge Wheelers) take victory in a time of 23-25 ahead of Lawrence Wintergold (Hounslow & District Wheelers) in second (28-33) and David Eccles (Redmon CC) third (31-41).
