Essex Roads CC team-mates Colin Ward and Louise Robinson were fastest male and female riders respectively at the Lea Valley CC 'Comet' 25-mile time trial near Ugley in Essex on Sunday.
Cold conditions and a headwind on the way back didn’t stop riders posting some fast times, including junior Alfie Salmon (Lee Valley Youth CC) who clocked 54-14 for a new junior course record and third overall.
Basildon-based Ward’s time of 52-58 gave him the win by 1-11 from Julian Webb (a3crg) in 54-09 with Salmon third, another five seconds back.
45 and from Cheshunt, Robinson clocked 1-01-53 for the E1/25b, taking the women’s prize by 4-28 from Julia Freeman (Easterley RC) in 1-06-21, while third spot in the women’s category went to Christina Pettit Higson (Walden Velo) with 1-12-48.
Alongside Ward and Robinson, Essex Roads CC were joined by Graeme Garner in the winning team too.
This was 44-year-old Ward’s third win of the season so far, coming after victory in the Chelmer CC 25 in August and the Eastern Counties CA 15 in July. Next weekend he’s due to tackle the National Closed Circuit Championship at Thruxton.
The well-used and popular E1/25b course takes riders from the start near Ugley northwards, over the M11 and through Newport, Wendens Ambo and up to Duxford, where they turn for home.
