Jonny Allen (Islington CC) stormed to his first individual victory of the season at the Essex Roads CC 25, while Julia Freeman (Easterley Road Club) was equally as convincing in the women’s event.
Allen, who also part of the winning team in the Victoria CC 2-up, clocked a winning time of 53 minutes and 40 seconds on his way to victory.
Starting at Norton Heath riders headed out westerly towards Chipping Ongar on the A414 before heading back easterly through the start/finish and back out to Chelmsford.
After returning back to the finish riders then completed the opening section back out to Chipping Ongar and back to Norton Heath to make up the 25-mile distance.
On his last individual outing Allen finished third in the ECCA 10 clocking 18-52 but he was not to be denied on this occasion recording an average speed of 27.95 miles per hour.
Under-23 rider Adam Robertson has won two events already this season but had to settle for second this time out finishing in 55-02.
Charlie Gaimster (Dulwich Paragon CC) completed the podium positions finishing a further minute back in 56-16.
Quickest veteran was Nicholas Knight (Hart Performance Coaching) who finished fourth overall clocking 57-05 ahead of Matthew Saunders (Team Vision Racing – Silverhook) who was second veteran in 57-51 while Terry Garlinge (Easterley Road Club) finished third in the age category (58-00).
Meanwhile, quickest tandem was David Shannon and Richard May (Islington Cycling Club) who completed the course in 1-05-12.
In the women’s event Freeman clocked a winning time of one hour, six minutes and four seconds which was over three minutes clear of her nearest challenger.
On her last outing Freeman finished third in the Victoria CC 10.2 but she went two places better on this occasion.
The only other women’s competitor was veteran Karina Kaufmann (CC London) who finished second in 1-09-24.
