Nicholas Cousins (Ilkeston CC) was the winner of the Common Lane Occasionals 10-mile time trial near Hatfield, while Lou Kelly (TFN Triathlon Club) came out on top in the women’s event.

41-year-old Cousins was the victor in a time of 20:47, but was closely followed by the second placed rider who was just nine seconds short of the winning time.

Julian Ramsbottom (Team Bottrill) was runner-up in 20:56, while taking the final podium spot was Phillip Tyas (Barnsley RC), who completed the course in 22:04.

This was a first win of the season for veteran Cousins, whose only other podium finish came in the Matlock CC 25 where he was third.

In the women’s event it was Lou Kelly that took top spot with a winning time of 24:46 that was over a minute quicker than the closest competitor.

The closest competitor came in the form of Jo Corbett (Sherwood CC) who clocked 26:10. The final podium spot was awarded to Paula Fisher (Rotherham Wheelers) who completed the course in 26:59.

35-year-old Kelly’s last podium appearance was in the Bolsover and District CC 10 in June, where she was second.

This event was only her fourth of the season and her first win, although she will be looking to continue this form on September 18 at the VTTA National 10-Mile Championships on this same Hatfield Woodhouse course.

The O10/1 out and back course sees riders travel south down the A614. They pass the Hatfield Moors and continue up until reaching the roundabout between Mosham Road and Bank End Road where they turn back for the finish.

The event included a road bike category, with Duncan Putman (Derby Mercury RC) winning that in 23-22.
