Andy Nichols (Team Lifting Gear Products) was the victor in the Team Sheffield 10-mile time trial, while Josie Smith (Barnsley Road Club) took the top spot in the women’s event at Cuckney, North Nottinghamshire.
31-year-old Nichols is perhaps better known as a hill climber, but he picked up the win in a time of 20:37 to fend off the competition.
Leading the pack was Andy Thomas (Lindsey Roads CC) who clocked in at 20:53 for second. Behind him and claiming the final spot on the podium was Mathew Stonley (Mapperley CC), he finished the course in 21:28.
In the women’s event Josie Smith was the rider that put herself on top of the podium. She went around the 10-mile course in 23:15, just five seconds short of her personal best.
Sarah Harrison (Sheffield Triathlon Club) was the rider to occupy the second spot, clocking in at 24:29. The final spot on the podium was awarded to Hayley Moore (Ilkeston CC), she rode a time of 24:55.
Smith’s three rides prior to this had resulted in two wins and one fourth placed finish. This event marking a second consecutive win which she will be hoping to build on in her next open event.
The O10/5 course is an out and back course that starts on the A60 and takes the riders north towards the A619. When they reach the A619 roundabout approaching Worksop Road they turn back and head the way they came back towards the finish line.
