Prolific veteran rider Keith Ainsworth (Sheffrec CC) hones his preparations for next Saturday’s VTTA National 10 Championship with victory on similar roads at his own club’s 25-mile event on Saturday.
The 62-year-old from Sheffield covered the O25/11 course near Hatfield Woodhouse in South Yorkshire in 53-25, giving him victory on the day by almost four minutes from Allan Wailoo (7 Hills CC), while Anthony Nash (Lindsey Roads CC) was third.
Team Sheffield’s 50-year-old Gail Phillips was fastest of the women in 1-07-36, around 19 minutes better than second-placed Yvonne Twelvetree (Sheffield Tri Club).
Ainsworth, who has placed second on standard in the VTTA National 25, 30 and 50 this season, will return to Hatfield Woodhouse next Saturday for the VTTA National 10-Mile Championship and will be hoping to improve on his performance in 2020 when he was third on standard.
Outside the podium places, Birdwell Wheelers veteran Trevor Mayne took fourth in 59-07, and was just two seconds faster than Jonathan Lloyd (Westmead Team 88), with Daryl May (Sheffrec CC) sixth.
The 25-mile Hatfield Woodhouse course heads east along the A18 to Ealand before returning to the start and heading south on the A614 to Blaxton and back up.
