Joshua Tarling (Flanders Color Galloo Team) and Zoe Backstedt (Team Backstedt Bike Performance) were convincing victory in the junior boys’ and girls’ categories at the RTTC National Circuit Championship incorporating round five of the Merlin Cycles Classic Series.
Tarling, aged 17, from Aberaeron, was on phenomenal form covering the 32.5-mile course in a time of one hour, 10 minutes and 14 seconds.
His time was over four minutes faster than his nearest rival and would have placed seventh in the men’s event.
Meanwhile, Backstedt was equally as impressive with her winning time of 1-17-04 over two minutes clear of her nearest rival and equal to that of women’s winner Hayley Simmonds.
The NC16N course saw riders complete three laps of a loop around the rural roads of Northamptonshire starting and finishing in Naseby.
Completing a rectangle course riders headed out towards Clipston and Sibbertoft on minor roads before joining the A5199 for a short section before turning off before Welford and following the River Avon back to the finish.
Tarling recorded an average speed of over 27.7 miles per hour on his way to victory.
His brother Finlay Tarling, aged 14, led the chasers home finishing second junior and leading juvenile in a time of 1-14-41.
Harry Jukes (Mid Devon CC) completed the podium positions places taking his first ever open national time trial podium in 1-15-06.
Backstedt, aged 16, previously won the junior National Closed Circuit Championships in 2019 and added the Circuit Championships to her collection recording an average speed of over 25.3 miles per hour.
Maddie Leech (PH-MAS Cycling) who won the junior National 25 last season placed second on this occasion in 1-19-30.
Completing the podium positions the defending junior Circuit Champion from last season Eva Callinan (Liv AWOL) who clocked 1-21-37.
