Kyle Gordon (RT 23) took a clear victory by over two minutes in the St Christophers CC/SVTTA 25 incorporating the Scottish District Championships, while Christina Murray (Army Cycling) won the women’s event adding to her impressive list of season honours.
Gordon, aged 33, suffered a puncture in last week’s National 25 Mile Championships last weekend but was more fortunate on this occasion winning in 48 minutes and 15 seconds.
The WW25/01 saw riders compete over two out and back laps on the A8 from outside Bishopton and Port Glasgow running alongside the River Clyde.
Gordon’s only other finish this season came with a win in the Kennoway RC 10 clocking 18-47 and he continued his impressive form on this occasion recording an average speed of over 31 miles per hour in calm conditions which started out misty.
Quickest veteran over-40 Douglas Watson (GTR – Return to Life) led the charge behind taking second overall in 50-19.
Silas Goldsworthy (Ryan's Bike Surgery - Thomson Homes) continued his first season of open time trials by taking third overall in 50-47.
The fastest veteran’s on scratch were: over-50 Hans Forhaug (Glasgow United CC) in 53-36; over-60 Derek McMillan (SVTTA) 55-12; over-70 Robert Brown (E H StarCycling) 1-02-36; over-80 Alex Munro (SVTTA) 1-19-39.
Glen Hornby (Glasgow Ivy CC) was fastest junior clocking a time of 1-00-30.
Meanwhile, the fastest tandem was Isobel Fletcher and Allen MacLean (VC Glasgow South) in 1-04-54.
In the women’s event veteran National 24 Hour and Interservices Champion Murray was victor clocking a winning time of 57-38.
She was pushed for victory by Natalie Stevenson (Eat Plants Not Pigs CC) who finished 25 seconds back in 58-03.
Another close battle for third saw Victoria Smith (AeroCoach) 59-04 which was nine seconds quicker than Patricia Baird (Ecosse Performance Cycling Coaching) in 59-13.
Baird was also quickest veteran woman aged over-50 while Carol Middleton (Ythan CC) was fastest veteran woman over-60 in 1-07-18.
