Joshua Aiken (Orwell Velo) came out on top in the Wigmore CC hill climb event, while Jasmine Cornelius (Lee Valley Youth CC) was victor in the women’s event on the 1,350-yard Hollingbourne Hill.
27-year-old Aiken clocked in at 3:00.1 to take the top spot, 16 seconds ahead of the next quickest male.
Taking second spot was James Hayward (Woolwich CC) with a time of 3:16.8 and trailing him was Thomas Willan (East London Velo), he finished the climb in 3:21.5.
Aiken didn’t start as the favourite but he impressed to beat scratch-man Hayward.
In the women’s event it was Jasmine Cornelius to take the top spot in what was a hard-fought battle between the two women to participate in the event. Cornelius clocked 4:55.6.
Debbie Percival (Kent Velo Girls/Boys) claimed the second spot, finishing just three seconds off the pace to make it interesting in the battle for first between the two women. Her final time was 4:58.8.
It was the first event of the season for Cornelius according to her CTT profile, making it a winning start for the Essex-based 17-year-old making what may have been her competitive debut in open competition.
The fastest team was the San Fairy Ann CC with a total time of 13:43.2 amassed by riders David Harris, Dave Richards and Duncan Belfrage.
