Andrew Meilak

Andrew Meilak (VeloRefined Rule 5) rode to victory in the Gravesend CC Ramsay Cup 25-mile time trial near Canterbury, while Rebecca Wilson (Rye & District Wheelers CC) was crowned winner of the women’s event.

Veteran Meilak was yet to win an event this season before today, but he was able to claim top spot this time out clocking in at 53:20 to lead the field.

Neil Harrigan (Gemini BC) took second with a time of 53:49 and Nathan Russell (trainSharp) occupied the final spot on the podium as he finished in 54:30.

The Q25/8 begins on the A252 east of Molash, riders proceed East to Milton Manor roundabout Thanington on the outskirts of Canterbury and retrace to Chilham before heading south through Godmersham down to near Ashford before heading back up to finish near Chilham.

Having only taken one podium so far this season, Meilak will have been looking to add to that in this event, which he was able to do by getting his highest placed finish of the season and first open event win since July 2019.

Second-placed Harrigan was another rider with only one podium finish throughout the season so far but was able to build on that by securing another here. Russell secured his highest placed finish of the season, with his previous best being 12th this year.

In the women’s event it was veteran Rebecca Wilson that led the way, clocking in at 1:05:19 to claim her first win of the season.

Amy Pay (Southborough & District Wheelers) was the second placed woman, finishing with a time of 1:09:00.

56-year-old Wilson, having won her first race this weekend, will be looking to carry that form over into next weekend where she is riding in the VTTA 50.

This was Pay’s first ride in an open event so with this podium finish she will also be looking to carry momentum into her next ride which is unknown as of right now.
