Ashley Cox (Team Bottrill) rode a new course record time to claim top spot in the Finsbury Park CC 50-mile time trial near Cambridge, while Karina Kaufmann (CC London) clinched victory in the women's event.

38-year-old scratch man Cox picked up his fifth win of the season, clocking in at a record 1:39:38 to fight off competition from second and third placed brothers.

Luke Clarke (TMG Horizon Cycling Team) was the first brother to finish, taking second with 1:42:30, while Ross Clarke (TMG Horizon Cycling Team) followed, clocking a time of 1:43:38.

Cox has been in good form so far this season with this being latest win, coming after victory in the Hitchin Nomads CC 25, the Team Milton Keynes 20, the Finsbury Park CC 25 and the Welwyn Wheelers hilly 31.1 back in April.

Coming off of the back of a win in a 10-mile event last week, Luke Clarke brought that form into this event, using the momentum to outpace older brother Ross.

Also participating in a 10-mile event last week was the older brother, he finished second in the Whitewebbs CC. Both brothers have become accustomed to podium finishes, regardless of distance they always find themselves up there.

In the women's event it was 40-year-old Karina Kaufmann that took victory, although very narrowly as the second rider finished just three seconds behind. Kaufmann clocked in at 2:04:53.

Ingrid Salisbury (Mercedes AMG Petronas) was the woman in second, finishing in 2:04:56. As the only two women participating they kept that competition very interesting.

A lot of riders did not finish as the heavy rain began to fall midway through the event but of those that carried on 12 still were able to ride sub-two hour times on the F1B/50 out and back course. It begins on the A1 and follows the road south, passing through Beeston and going down to the roundabout on the A507 before turning back and retracing until the finish.
