Zoe Burrell and Ashley Cox were both winners at the Hitchin Nomads CC 25-mile time trial near the Bedfordshire/Cambridgeshire border on Saturday afternoon.
Burrell, the 19-year-old who rides for Will Houghton Racing Team, clocked 1-01-50 and was the fastest female by almost three minutes with second spot going to team-mate Rebekah Nash in 1-04-45, with veteran Mirian Taylor-Carter (Bedfordshire Road CC) third, exactly one minute behind Nash.
Cox, the 38-year-old from Biggleswade, took the win for Team Bottrill in a time of 49-30 which was 2-40 faster than his nearest rival, Adam Robertson (Univ of Bath CC), while the final podium place went to Luke Clarke (TMG Horizon CT) who was another ten seconds back.
The popular F14/25 course begins just south of Wrestlingworth and heads south over the border into Cambridgeshire. At Guilden Morden, riders head back north east through Wendy and on to the A1198 before heading back west through Tadlow and on to Wrestlingworth. And the finish south near Guilden Morden.
This was Ashley Cox’s fourth victory if the season so far and the fourth he has completed, with a DNS and a DNF on his record.
A fortnight earlier he won the Team Milton Keynes 20, while in April he was victorious in the Finsbury Park CC 25 on the same course at today’s event but was quicker in the Hitchin Nomads event by 17 seconds.
He also won the Welwyn Wheelers hilly 31.1-mile event at the beginning of April, starting a run of good form.
He is due to ride the Northampton and District CA 25 on the same Guilden Morden course again next Saturday and will be looking to go even quicker, while he is also entered in the National Circuit Championships on June 6.
Burrell has only ridden two open time trials so far this season, having placed 19th at the BUCS 25-Mile Championships last month staged by Cambridge university CC.
Her next performance is due to be in the Cambridge CC 15 next Sunday.
