Royal Navy & Royal Marines CA team-mates Joshua Clark and Charlotte Marshall took the men’s and women’s victories in the St Piran/Northover Vets Team 25 including the Royal Navy Championship.

Clark, aged 23, won the Royal Navy Championship 10 also hosted by St Piran/Northover Vets Team the previous day and made it a weekend double recording a winning time of 51 minutes and 11 seconds.

The undulating U30/25R starts and finishes in Podimore, Somerset, before taking riders out and back on the A303.

On the first section of the course riders head out for the first six miles before retracing their steps back to Ilchester.

Riders then turn back on themselves completing the outward leg to South Petherton and then making the journey straight back to Podimore.

Unlike the previous day’s 10-mile event riders were treated to a bright and sunny morning but with a tough breeze to compete against.

Clark’s only other open 25 this season came with a fifth placed finish in the East Sussex CA 25 when he clocked 53-41.

Spindate had predicted Clark as the victor but veteran rider Gavin MacDougall (Royal Navy & Royal Marines CA) started as last man.

Clark’s time of 51-11 was 29 seconds faster than Royal Navy & Royal Marines CA team-mate Tom Scorer in 51-40 while veteran MacDougall completed a clean sweep for the Navy a further nine seconds back (51-49).

The top three men’s positions were the same as the previous day’s event over 10 miles.

Marshall was pushed all the way for victory in the women’s race with her time of one hour, four minutes and nine seconds just 17 seconds clear of her nearest challenger.

Spindate had predicted that Marshall, who was runner-up in the previous day’s 10-mile event, would be the fastest of those finishers.

Charley Helyar (VTTA West Group) finished third the previous day but went one place better over 25 miles placing second in 1-04-26 while Gemma Waterjohns (Somerset Road Club) was a further eight seconds back (1-04-36).

The fastest woman in the road bike category was Katie Pratt (Royal Navy & Royal Marines CA) who finished in 1-10-16.
