Charlotte Emily Daisy Berry and Anthony Turner were the fastest female and male riders at the Team Swindon Cycles 10-mile time trial on Saturday, putting in impressive performance on the U44 course near Poulton in Gloucestershire.
Turner, the 50-year-old from Witney in Oxfordshire who rides for Mickey Cranks Cycling Club, clocked 21-03 to take victory by seven seconds from Dean Robson (Velo Sport Jersey), while Nick English (AeroCoach) was just one second further back in third place.
Meanwhile Berry, 27 and riding for Pro-Noctis-Redchilli Bikes, clocked 22-49 to finish as fastest female by 31 seconds from Melanie Sneddon (TORQ Performance), with Swindon Wheelers’ Marianne Day third.
The course largely uses the A417, beginning on the outskirts of Meysey Hampton and heading west to the fringes of Cirencester before turning and heading back through Ampney St Peter and on to the finish just beyond Poulton.
This was Turner’s first open time trial win of the season, although it comes after some good placings including second in the Newbury Velo 10 and fourth in the VTTA London & Home Cos 10, where he clocked 19-22 to go within seven seconds of a personal best performance a week ago.
And Berry’s victory was her second of the season so far, having been the fastest female in the Tetbury Velos 10 three weeks earlier and second in the FTP Racing 10 in early April, where she was only beaten by the impressive Megan Dickerson.
Elsewhere in the result Matt Boulton (Swindon Wheelers) was just 13 seconds slower than winner Turner with 21-16 for fourth, while Robin Short (Cotswold Veldrijden) was fifth in 21-32, just 21 seconds off a podium place.
