Olympian Ethan Vernon (Team Inspired) took victory in the Bank Holiday classic the Coalville Wheelers 19.8, while Alison Fovargue (Team Empella Cyclocross.com) won the women’s event.
Vernon, from Bedford, was part of the Great British team pursuit team in the Tokyo Olympics earlier this month and was on top form in the Leicestershire classic.
The 21-year-old took his first open time trial victory by covering the 19.8-mile course in 40 minutes and 11 seconds some 46 seconds faster than his nearest rival.
The event saw riders tackle two nine-mile laps starting near Griffydam before heading out to Breedon on the Hill before looping back around and up Vinegar Hill before going on to finish near Belton at the end of the second lap.
Vernon, who is used to velodrome competition, recorded an average speed of over 29.56 miles per hour over the undulating terrain.
William Perrett (AeroLab Ward WheelZ) finished fifth in the National 25 and has two wins to his name already this season.
However, on this occasion he had to settle for second clocking 40-57 which was over a minute quicker than third placed rider Leon Wright (Race Hub) in 42-06.
Quickest veteran was Richard Oakes (Team Ohten Aveas) who finished fourth overall in 42-11 ahead of Matthew Bottrill (Team Bottrill) in 43-12 while Richard Golding (JCA Equipe Velo) was third in the age category (47-02).
In the women’s event veteran rider Fovargue clocked a winning time of 51-06 which was over nine minutes clear of her nearest challenger.
Using some of the same roads earlier this season Fovargue finished fourth in the Coalville Wheelers 10 but her time was enough for a clear victory on this occasion.
Fellow veteran Pamela Moore (Coalville Whs) took second in 1-00-21 while Sarah Soden (Leicester Forest CC) finished third in 1-01-16.
