Lucy Rogers led a one-two for Congleton CC in the women’s event, while Alistair Ribbands (Manchester Wheelers) was overall winner of the Manchester and District TTA 50-mile time trial in Cheshire on Saturday.

The event, using the same J4/9 course near Cranage as the National 50 the previous week, saw 38-year-old Ribbands from Altrincham take victory in a time of 1-47-40, 2-34 faster than Congleton CC’s Ben Norbury in second while Henry Moss (Barrow Central Wheelers) was third, almost nine minutes further back.

Rogers won the women’s prize in a time of 2-05-34 which was just over five minutes quicker than team-mate Lesley Norbury in second.

Outside of the main podium spots was Eddie Hirst (St Helens Tri) who was fourth in 2-01-25, and was just 19 seconds quicker than Jonathan Lloyd, the Westmead Team 88 rider who had to settle for fifth.

Third overall, Henry Moss was also the winner of the handicap prize with an adjusted time of 1-32-42.

This was win number five for all-rounder Ribbands, who went on to ride the Ilkeston CC hill-climb event the following day. Among his previous time trial victories this season are the Yorkshire Road Club hill-climb, the Warrington Road Club 50 and Withington Wheelers 25 in August, as well as the Crewe Clarion Wheelers 16.5-mile event back in May.

This was also win number five for Rogers, who has proved consistent and strong all season.

Tenth in the National 50 last month, Rogers‘ wins so far this season have included the Warrington Road Club 50 last month, the Birkenhead North End CC 25 and West Cheshire TTCA 50 in June and the Crewe Clarion Wheelers 16.5-miler in May.
