Veteran Richard Todd (Onyx RT) took a slender victory by just five seconds in the Aerocoach 10 on road bikes, while Hayley Simmonds (CAMS Racing) won the women’s race.

Todd, aged 41, from Greater London, took his second win in as many weeks clocking a time of 19-57 on his road bike.

That followed his win in 34-06 at the sporting Paceline RT 15.4 last weekend.

Starting near Harvington on the Worcestershire-Warwickshire border riders started and finished on an unclassified A-road before passing through Salford Priors.

Riders then joined the A46 out and back to Alcester before leaving back onto the unclassified road for the finish.

Onyx was the only rider to average over 30 miles per hour on his road bike in the event narrowly beating Connor McGoldrick (Primera-Teamjobs) into second by five seconds (20-02).

Graham Briggs (Clancy Briggs Cycling Academy) led home a host of former professionals taking third in 20-25.

Todd was also quickest veteran on scratch ahead of Yanto Barker (Drops - Le Col s/b Tempur) in second (20-41) while Crispin Doyle (Montezuma’s Race Team) was third (21-45).

Meanwhile, Jonathan Masters (Stratford Cycling Club) was fastest junior in 24-08.

“It was a really great course but we were greeted by torrential rain for the last few starters,” said Todd.

“That made for difficult conditions as the heavens opened with running water rushing down the road.

“My win in the Paceline RT event was on a bit more sporting and a technical course. This course was more about how aero you are and much power you could put out.”

Todd is preparing to ride the road bike event at the National Circuit Championships next month before getting back on his time trial bike later in the season.

On her first open time trial of the season Simmonds took victory by over a minute in the women’s event.

Simmonds, aged 32, from Bar Hill in Cambridgeshire, has spent the season so far road racing in Europe.

However, the former multi-distance national champion returned to the time trial scene in fine style in the road bike event posting a winning time of 21-30.

Victoria Smith (AeroCoach) was also on her first outing of the season and led the charge for second in 22-41 while Louise Hart (Royal Dean Forest Cycle Club) took third a further 15 seconds back.

The veteran’s category saw Fiona Prew (Stone Wheelers CC) finish fastest on scratch in 24-04 some 13 seconds faster than both Celia Brown (Gorilla Coffee Cycling Club) and Georgina Paul (
Ross on Wye & Dist CC).

Meanwhile, quickest junior was Kinga Ingram (Storey Racing) in 24-19 and para-cyclist Emma Tod (Newcomers Cycling Club) clocked 28-31.
